Too many people failed the Recital Diploma (Premier Prix) examination?

I have heard that too many candidates failed the Recital Diploma
examination, at the Royal
Academy of Music and at the Guildhall School of Music, so it has been
deleted for some years now.
It was available (if you passed) at Trinity College of Music, but now
has been replaced by
Associate, Graduate and Fellowship Diplomas, after a performance or
recital.

I wonder if it was considered a Gold Medal or something like that.
France, incidentally, has also deleted the Premier Prix, perhaps
because of the trauma
of having talented candidates failing too often the exam!

What do you know about the Recital Diploma or Premier Prix?
